Invitation: Summer Fest 2016

In April 2016, IWH turned 30 years young. A birthday milestone needs to be naturally celebrated with friends, old and new. The best opportunity for this is our Summer Fest on the 20th of July, from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm, in our garden. We would like to thank friends, organisers and well-wishers - especially those we don't see on a daily basis. We would like to cordially invite you and your family for a small reception with fingerfood, topped off with music and other attractions. This is also an opportunity to visit our rooms and to get to know more about what is new at IWH. You can also reserve your conferences with us.

Hengstberger Award 2016: Call for papers closed

This year we received 17 interesting conference proposals from young researchers of all Heidelberg University faculties for the Hengstberger Award 2016. By the end of April the IWH Curatory Board will short-list five to six of these projects. On 20th July these applicants will get the opportunity to present their project to the board members and the donator Klaus-Georg Hengstberger. Three projects will be awarded 12.500€ to organize an international Symposium in 2017 at the IWH.

Secretaries' Day 2016

On International Women's Day, as part of the jubilee year celebrations, IWH invited the assistants of Heidelberg University and the non-university scientific organisations of Heidelberg to an info-lunch. The positive feedback was enormous and more than half the invitees visited the event and viewed the facilities at IWH. About 60 ladies informed themselves about what the house has on offer and were pleasantly surprised by the ambience and the environment at IWH.

A long way travelled away

Where do our guests come from? We tried to find the answer to this question between 1999 and 2010 with the help of Prof Peter Meusburger from the Geographical Institute. The study results were clear: Our guests do not shy away from long distances. The whole world travels to IWH Heidelberg and networks with local academics or strengthens existing connections.

And the trend continues: Our survey of our organisers for the year 2014, from whom we received 45 responses, shows a similar result. Academics from every continent found their way to IWH last year too. The majority of participants were quite naturally from Germany. The map, however, elucidates the international network of Heidelberg's academic scene - especially within Europe. The longest distance was covered by our visitors from Hawaii and New Zealand in the year 2014.

15 applications for the Hengstberger Award 2015

This year, 15 applications from a total of 21 applicants have been received.

The shortlisting of the applications shall be completed by the beginning of June. The applicants will then have the chance to review their work till 15th July 2015.

The final selection process is expected to be completed between the 20th and the 24th of July. After that, the applicants may present their project before the prize founder and the IWH Curatory Board.
